Legislation Guidelines TO: All
Members Tea Association/Council of the USA As part of a movement to make the United States food supply safer, U.S. Customs and the Food & Drug Administration (FDA) have introduced several pieces of legislation for implementation by December 12, 2003. These laws will have significant implications on how you conduct business in the future and there are certain steps that you need to take immediately to ensure that you will be in compliance. While the specific laws are quite complicated and the final guidelines are still being developed, we will use this section of our website to help summarize the ”interim final rules” for members and offer web-links to both members and non-members where they can find more information. Our Tea Importation and Transportation Committees have volunteered many hours of time to help decipher the various laws and the implications they will have on the conduct of business in the United States. Special thanks to Domenick Ciaccia Chairman of the Transportation & Systems Committee and to Vic Ferretti, Chairman of the Tea Importation Committee for taking a leadership role in this very important project. Also to Eugene Amici, and Andrew McKay for helping us to understand the implications of the proposed legislation. For members we invite you to visit the special section (above)
where we have summarized several laws including the lone US Customs
entry For non-members, It is critically important that you visit the
link at the top of this page, as you will be unable to ship tea to
the United States after December 12, 2003 unless you are in full compliance
with the law.
